With five race meetings held last week, the trainers at Murray Bridge delivered strong performances across the board.
Strathalbyn on Wednesday:
Starting of the racing week, Garret Lynch saw Flying Assassin’s “biggest win of his career” he stated, with Connor Murtagh gaining an impressive 4.31 length win.
Stuart Padman followed this performance with strength, having Joviale take its second win in two races, Rochelle Milnes riding both wins, giving a 1.27 length finish in the fourth race.
Grant Young had a similar experience in the sixth race, with Caitlin Jones noting that Oldpop has now “matured a bit” when claiming it’s second consecutive win at Strathalbyn.
Kingscote on Thursday:
In the warm up to the Kangaroo Island Cup on Saturday, Nicole Irwin took home three of the seven races. Starting in the second race, Redwinelover, after freshening for five weeks since it’s last win on Kangaroo Island, rounded out an impressive 4.82 length lead with Stacey Metcalfe riding the winner.
In the fifth race, Kyra Yuill rode Lastar to it’s second consecutive win at Kangaroo Isalnd for Nicole Irwin, with the win being 2.00 lengths over Artissi, ridden by Sophie Potter, providing a first and second placing for the team.
Directly following that performance, Sophie Potter went on to win the sixth race, with Vee Rod running a 1.48 length win to round out the day for Nicole Irwin.
Morphettville on Saturday:
In the last race meet on the Morphettville track before the Adelaide Cup, the day started strong with Bamyan Buddha running a 0.33 length win with Brooke King in control of Grant Young’s winner.
Towards the end of the day, Sarah Rutten had Eventually follow through with Teagan Voorham to win by 0.01 lengths, providing the first Group Three win for Sarah Rutten in the Lord Reim Stakes, a possible contender in the upcoming Group One Adelaide Cup.
With a Phillip Stokes horse in second place, Crimson Vine still took out third place for the Sarah Rutten team, with Kayla Crowther finishing 0.56 lengths behind it’s stablemate.
Kingscote on Saturday:
Nicole Irwin took home the first race at Kingscote on Saturday, having Sophie Potter ride Bel Hotesse to a 0.88 length win in what would be a successful day for the Irwin team, having a horse place in every race of the meet.
Balaklava on Sunday:
Alainge ran across the finish line for a 2.59 length win for Garret Lynch in the second race, with Sairyn Fawke pushing it home past Judy Street’s Jackson Run, with Dylan Caboche following for a second place.
Andrew Clarken grabbed a close win in the fourth, having Todd Pannell ride Power Of Time, a 0.13 length win for the horse, coming off a fourth place in its last race.
In the sixth race, the Seyers Racing team called Bolted In’s win “out of nowhere,” with Campbell Rawiller storming through the last 200m for a 0.19 length win for Matthew Seyers.
February’s cup fever isn’t over yet, with the Port Lincoln Cup kicking off on Friday to take us from the end of February into early March.
