After a sweltering week, the weather turned around and motivated the Murray Bridge Trainers to push themselves to an outstanding 13 win across the race week.

Bung Fritz Cup Gawler:

To start the Rosden Park racing week strong, Roslyn Day’s Bocheeva took home the Bung Fritz Cup, with Andrew Stead taking out a 0.13 length lead. This was followed by Orlova, jumping up from it’s 2nd and 3rd placing in the last two starts, with Tala Hutchinson running Dan Clarken & Oopy MacGillivray’s horse to a 0.66 length win.

In Race Six, Justin Pickering’s Smashing Action took home a 0.25 length win with Margaret Collett taking the saddle. The next race then had Tokyo Ice, trained by Garret Lynch and ridden by Caitlin Tootell, take home a 0.32 length win, rounding out the day for winners from Murray Bridge.

Morphettville on Saturday:

There was lots to celebrate for Murray Bridge at Morphettville this weekend, with the first race bringing home an impressive 1.98 length win for Sue & Jason Jaensch’s Belongtojill, with Stacey Metcalfe riding the winner.

Race Three then saw Cielao trained by Michael Hickmott win the third of four starts, with Todd Pannell taking out a 1.9 length lead. Following this, Ole Go, a first time runner for Michael Hickmott, took the glory to 2.18 lengths with Todd Pannell going two races strong.

Race Six had a Surprise Coming for Mick Huxtable with Connor Murtagh securing a 1.69 length win. This was backed up by Back Me Up Benny, a Kristi Evans trained horse and Justin Holder riding away with 0.68 lengths to win.

Todd Pannell took home his first race on Royal Fox, with Jessica Tzaferis’ horse taking a 0.24 length lead in the third last of the day.

Ceduna Cup on Saturday:

Garrett Lynch went to Ceduna with a horse accepted in every race. The Gov took home Race Two with Alyssa Webb going two for two in a close 0.05 length win.

Strathalbyn Cup on Sunday:

In Race Two, Stuart Padman trained Tenterk to have Jacob Opperman run a 0.22 length win.

After being pushed back due to scorching heat, the Strathalbyn Cup was handed to Roslyn Day, with Ben Price riding Kirkliston Blu to a 0.42 length win in the feature race.

We move into the second month of the year, starting with racing at Murray Bridge this Wednesday, followed by four cup meetings at Naracoorte this Sunday, Lock the following Sunday, and Port Lincoln and Kangaroo Island to follow.
